What is the theme & story for this week?
Are you a fan of Toy Story like me? Then you must be heard of the news that “Lightyear” was finally released on the streaming platform Disney + two days ago. So, you can watch the film at home! (if you subscribe to Disney +) I just finished watching the movie! It is a spectacle movie that more close to other sci-fi live-action films set in space, not just animated ones.
As you know, Buzz is Andy’s toy from his favorite movie that he watched as a little child. This movie shows us what Andy watched, so if you expect a story about Buzz as a toy, it may be not the story that you expect. Here is the short plot of the movie from Tech Crunch. “Unlike the rest of the Toy Story franchise, Lightyear tells the origin story of human Buzz and explores him trying to find a way back home after being stranded on a hostile planet with his commander and crew. He accidentally time jumps 62 years into the future, where the planet is taken over by the evil Emperor Zurg and his robot army.”
Although the box office performance did not meet the expectation of the studio and critics, Lightyear still presents us with insightful messages and adorable new characters. 😸
Let theme spark in your everyday life.
Experience 1. Imagine what food looks like in space.
There are many interesting products that told us, “These are what astronauts eat during their mission!” as shown in the picture above.
However, regarding these products, former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino said in his interview video with Wired, “I think the reason that there are so much of it in museums around the world is that astronauts will not eat it.” It is a fun and informative interview, indeed. I wish you could check the video too! He also explains the difference between eating on Earth and eating in space. One of the differences is that all of their food items have a little bit of liquidy consistency. It is almost like glue, so the food will stick to the spoon. We all know there is no gravity in space!
It would be fun to talk and imagine astronaut foods with your kids or try making food that reminds you of space. 🪐 🌎 💫 Check the space-themed snack ideas here.
Experience 2. Summer of Space at Science Museum of Minnesota
If you want to experience more about space, it would be always a good idea to visit Science Museum in your neighborhood. The science museum of Minnesota presents a special exhibition this summer! According to its website, during Summer of Space, exhibits, movies, and out-of-gravity experiences will show you the beauty and extremes of space—and the super cool science that takes us there. I can’t wait to visit and experience all this cool stuff! Most exhibits and movies will continue this August. Please check their website if you need more information about tickets and schedules.
